akronDigital center movesAKRON: The Akron Digital Media Center, formerly located in the Akron Beacon Journal, now is headquartered at the Akron-Summit County Public Library, 60 S. High St.The media center, initially funded with a $350,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and a $100,000 grant from the Akron Community Foundation, opened in 2010. It works to cultivate local storytelling and community news gathering. A Summit County sheriff’s deputy will direct traffic during the work.MUNROE FALLSGas plan continuedMUNROE FALLS: City officials have continued the community’s natural gas aggregation program for another two years with Vectren Source.For the months of April through October, the fixed-rate will be $3.84 per thousand cubic feet. A new price will be renegotiated after October.Accounts currently in the program and those newly eligible will receive an opt-out letter from Vectren on or around Thursday. Customers will be included automatically unless they opt out during a 21-day period.Vectren Source can be contacted at 866-200-5536. The rate for customers on the Standard Choice Offer through a randomly selected provider by Dominion is $3.68/mcf for the month of February. That rate changes each month.PORTAGE COUNTYWoman arrested EDINBURG TWP.: An East Canton woman, 27, was charged with robbery after police said she took a coil of wire from a hardware store.On Tuesday, Lydia L. Blake of Lincoln Street entered Pettigrew Hardware on Tallmadge Road and loaded the wire into a cart before fleeing the store to a waiting vehicle, Detective Bureau Chief Lt. Gregory A. Johnson of the Portage County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.An employee followed Blake from the store and confronted her at the vehicle, authorities said, while a male accomplice got out of the vehicle to load the wire.The accomplice shoved the employee against the car, but she was able to retrieve the wire as the man and Blake fled in the vehicle, police said.During an investigation, deputies said they learned Blake also is a suspect in a theft Wednesday from the Walmart in Alliance.Blake was arrested at a motel where she was living and taken to the Portage County Jail. She is being held without bond pending her arraignment Tuesday.The sheriff’s office is trying to obtain the identity of the alleged accomplice, Johnson said.SUMMIT COUNTYRecord fundraiserBATH TWP.: This year’s Wayne Homes Chili Open, held Feb. 4, raised a record $148,000 for a Summit County camp.Money raised in the 22nd annual charitable event, held at Hale Farm and Village in Bath Township, will be used to send adults and children with disabilities to programs at Akron Rotary Camp, 4460 Rex Lake Road, New Franklin.Event chairman Bill Manby said more than 400 golfers and about 60 volunteers took part.For more information about the camp, go to www.akronrotary.org or call 330-644-4512.Hours for SchmidtCUYAHOGA FALLS:. They say the ruling would force them to release trade secrets and other confidential information.The dispute is part of a lawsuit by privately operated schools in Akron and Cleveland. An attorney for those schools says they want the accounting information to help guide decisions about the schools and to check that taxpayer money was spent appropriately.
